I don’t like slowing down. My preference is to get up early, work through lunch, and stay busy right up until it’s time to go to bed. I would always say in my younger years, that I felt that I was missing out on many things by sleeping in or by relaxing. Even now, at an older young age, I still like to squeeze as much as possible out of the day. So I dislike being sick. Not because of the headaches or the congestion or other physical things, I dislike being sick because to me it is wasting precious time that could be spent doing something. But it happens from time to time, and I am forced to slow down and take life at an easier pace.
Lately though, it seems that after this time of slowing down to regain my health and strength, I usually admit that it was a needed rest. One that I wouldn’t have taken if not for how I was physically feeling. While it was something that I did not want, it was definitely something that I needed.
Spiritually its much the same. We all have preconceived notions about what it is that we want in life. We call it preference. We have certain tastes and likes and mannerisms that are uniquely ours. And that is a good thing. Imagine a world full of people just like you or me! Yikes… And in life we sometimes create that shopping list of things that we want and even expect God to do for us and even maybe the way and time that we would like it done. But that’s not the way that it works.
You see while He certainly cares about our wants, He is more concerned with what we need. We see things through the limited scope of where we stand and from our limited knowledge, while He knows what is best. Your heavenly father knows just what you need and when you need it.
The next time you find yourself disgruntled, disappointed, and maybe even upset about things not working out in the manner that you had wanted them to, remember that is timing His impeccable. His clock keeps perfect time. He will work things out according to His schedule for the plan that He has for our lives.
Romans 8:28 states, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
